Former Sydney Fish Market Site Moves Forward

Infrastructure NSW has completed a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the proposed demolition of the former Sydney Fish Market buildings at Blackwattle Bay.

The REF assessed the potential environmental and community impacts of the demolition works, including noise, dust, traffic, heritage and amenity considerations, and identified measures to manage and mitigate those impacts.

The REF was publicly exhibited from 28 May to 12 June 2026, providing the community and key stakeholders with an opportunity to review the proposal and provide feedback. Following consideration of the assessment findings and submissions received, the REF was determined on 30 June 2026.

The demolition of the former Sydney Fish Market is an important step in the renewal of Blackwattle Bay, helping prepare the site for future redevelopment and enabling the delivery of new public open space, improved waterfront access, housing, community facilities and commercial uses.

The final REF and associated documentation can be viewed on the NSW Government Planning Portal.
